They are used to start automatically induction motors.

Reduce the starting current and torque motors adjust working time to the machine. Resistors are dry and cooled by natural ventilation, placed in tin case.
The casing is composed of front and back part. In the front part is automation and in the back part are resistors. The casing can be made for internal and external mounting.
